Holiday coloring sheets offer a young person the opportunity to gain a positive and independent attitude they'll use later in life; it gives them an outlet for expressing the way they perceive the world that surrounds them. When they see the blank figures come to life as they complete their coloring, it'll stimulate their minds and teach them about colors and shapes.
My three-year old daughter absolutely loves to color. She doesn't notice that her crayons seem to find themselves wandering outside of the lines quite frequently. She is simply content to decorate the page with a variety of bright colors.
After the picture is completed, she parades around the house with the coloring book in her hand, proudly showing anyone and everyone her wonderful creation. Sometimes, those pictures end up on the refrigerator.
Other times, they remain in the coloring book to be looked at the next time she opens the pages. Her favorite coloring book at the moment is the Care Bears. She absolutely adores those fluffy and colorful bears beyond belief.
She'll color them any color she can think of and makes up stories for each of the pages. I find it incredibly rewarding and relaxing to sit down at the table with her and help her bring those Care Bears to life. She is always impressed by how well I can keep my colors inside of the dark lines, which makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
I find that the times I can bring out the coloring books, is when I spend the best quality time with my daughter. We sometimes lay on the floor, facing each other and put a color book in front of each of us. As we lay with our heads close together and using those crayons, I find myself falling even more in love with her.
Another thing about printable coloring books is that you can use them in various ways. Coloring sheets can be colored, scanned, and printed onto iron on transfer paper. Then, you can iron them onto inexpensive T-shirts, and give those as party favors. They can also be colored, and the guest can print his or her name on them, then they can be placed between two clear, plastic plates, or between two clear, plastic cups, for personalized, custom party ware!
She talks openly and freely, very mature, during those moments. I always find myself amazed at how fast the past years have gone and how grown up she has become. I also have to admit something. I have found myself so incredibly stressed out at some points, that I want to find a coloring book and relax.
Several months ago, when my daughter was not home and I was stressing more than I could handle, I did exactly that. I pulled out a coloring book and filled five pages. During those moments of coloring in that childish coloring book, I felt carefree.
It was truly relaxing and exactly what I needed. Unlike my daughter, however, I did not tear my creations out of the coloring book. My colored pages did not end up hanging on the refrigerator. They simply remained inside of the coloring book as a reminder that no matter what age you are, coloring is good for the soul.
The next time you are feeling stressed to the max, remember that.
When children enter school, some of them have more trouble than others with simple tasks like writing and cutting with scissors. Children who have developed their fine motor skills tend to perform much better throughout their academic lives.
