Vacation Bible School Ideas
Article by Walt R. Eader
I have always found that teaching the word of God is a curious combination of the timely and the timeless. On the one hand, the stories do not change and their meaning does not change. On the other hand, society changes, and so the way that you have to teach changes.
Bible school vacations are only the latest in a long series of efforts that the church has made to reach the young. When done right, they can be highly successful in teaching the next generation to love the Lord. In order to do that, however, you need the right vacation Bible school ideas.
For me, the best lesson plans ideas for Bible school are the ones that seamlessly integrate fun and education. Teaching Bible is the same as teaching anything else. You need to keep the kids engaged, and you need to use their excitement to teach them their lessons.
Vacation Bible school craft ideas are the best way to do this for young kids. The Bible is filled with all kinds of things that you can build. One of my favorite vacation Bible school ideas was to have the kids build an ark. They can fill the ark up with all of their favorite animals, then listen to a story about Noah and his ark.
Vacation Bible school ideas like this not only teach kids that learning about the Bible can be fun, but also help make sure that the lessons stick in their minds. By connecting spiritual lessons to physical activities, the teacher can make it easier for the kids to learn.
Of course not all vacation Bible school ideas are about teaching the Bible. Some of them are about teaching the children to function as a community. In order to keep the church alive, we not only need to teach lessons from the Bible, but also the importance of community.
Vacation Bible school ideas need to have a strong element of community building to them in order to be successful. Activities such as group ropes courses, campfire sing-alongs, and community talent shows help make the kids feel like they are part of something bigger than themselves.
They need to know that their brothers and sisters in Christ will support them through thick and thin. Not only will this make them healthier and happier people, but it will make them more likely to stay in the church.
And vacation Bible school ideas are about nothing so much as maintaining and strengthening the church.
